jerusalem design week 2024
cipher
Nine designers, both Arab and Jewish, worked with curators Fadi Far and Eli Kaplan Wildmann to create new, exploratory, symbolic letters. Though not legible, and not a font, or a language, these shapes outline a future of communication and creation.
About my series: What happens when matter burns and disintegrates? Does the spirit depart as well, or does it remain, eternal and unbreakable? Letters, sometimes adorned with wings and at other times becoming the wings themselves, act as vessels that preserve the essence of what can no longer be written but still endures as a timeless idea. Even when a person ceases to exist, their story remains, and words, once spoken, can never be erased. The letters are like a dove that never sinks beneath the surface of the water.
